Ideas from the heart of the ocean
Biarritz was inspired by the biggest ecosystem on the planet: the ocean. And more specifically, algae which are one of the sources of inspiration for his research. Indeed, it is through their personal choices that the Biarritz Laboratories teams are daily involved in respecting the environment. Indeed, as they enjoy sports such as sailing or surfing, they know to what extent pollution can have harmful consequences for the marine environment.

All its active ingredients are of marine origin! As mentioned above, Biarritz Laboratories are passionate about algae. Indeed, it is thanks to their defence and protection system that these marine organisms have survived for thousands of years. Biarritz wanted to put its powerful active ingredients at the service of our skin.
The marine environment as a source of inspiration for Laboratoires de Biarritz
Gelidium sesquipedale is a red alga found on the Basque coast. It actually grows on rocky reefs: this algae can withstand the tides, the swell… This is why it has remarkable antioxidant and regenerating properties! In fact, it is part of the composition of its patented active ingredients, Gorria® and Endatu® Algae. Biarritz Laboratories are careful to use only what nature offers: As a result, red algae are harvested only when their branches naturally detach from their base and end up washing up on beaches in autumn. Importantly, all the active ingredients used by the brand have proven efficacy on the skin.
A patented antioxidant active ingredient: Gorria® Algae
This active ingredient is able to neutralise free radicals. In fact, it acts as a cell protector and thus helps slow down premature skin aging. Not only are free radicals fragments of molecules which, by oxidation, can alter all cellular components: DNA, structural proteins, enzymes and membrane lipids…. But in the dermis, they play a role in the process of deterioration of the reserves of elastin, collagen and hyaluronic acid. As a result, skin ageing is accelerated. Moreover, it is important to note that UVA rays strongly stimulate the production of these radicals: broad spectrum sun protection is therefore essential for skin health.
A patented restorative active ingredient: Alga-Sendatu®
The active ingredient Alga-Sendatu® helps repair the skin barrier and regenerate it. In fact, the epidermis is in direct contact with our external environment. Consequently, its integrity must be preserved so that it can play its barrier role. However, the balance of the epidermis can easily be disturbed: the skin barrier no longer fulfils its protective role. Alga-Sendatu® stimulatesthe regeneration and maturation of keratinocytes, helping to restructure the epidermis.

This patented active ingredient is very effective in renewing the dermis and epidermis:
- Cellular renewal
- Proliferation of cells at the origin of keratinisation
- Migration and differentiation of keratinocytes
- Increased adhesion of the cells responsible for keratinization at the dermal-epidermal junction
- Alga-Sendatu® increases the tolerance of sensitive skin.
Algae-Paisium®, a unique soothing active ingredient
Children’s skin is “built up” until around 3 years of age. In babies, the skin barrier is very fragile. In particular, the hydrolipidic film does not yet fully fulfil its barrier role. As a result, the epidermis loses water and this leads to greater sensitivity to external aggressions. Rubbing nappies, clothes, temperature changes… All of these can lead to reddening of the skin. Fucus vesiculosus, Algae-Paisium is derived from a brown algae. In addition, it is an extract rich in chlorothanins, which helps maintain the integrity of the skin barrier. This is due to the anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory properties of Fucus vesiculosus. In vitro tests have demonstrated the effectiveness of Algae-Paisium extract. It has demonstrated its effectiveness in reducing skin inflammationin in vitro tests.
