How to use homeopathy on a daily basis? Dosages and practical advice

In homeopathy, dosage is not based on the dose of the active substance, but on its dilution, frequency of administration and relevance to the symptoms observed. In infants, this precision is even more important, as their bodies react in subtle ways. So it’s not a question of taking too many doses, but of choosing the right remedy, at the right time, with the right frequency.

Examples of common homeopathic doses for babies

Some homeopathic remedies are general and essential for children, while others are particularly suitable for specific disorders or illnesses. Here are the most common homeopathic dosages for teething:

  • Chamomilla 9 CH acts in cases of agitation, pain and uncontrollable crying. Five granules are generally given two or three times a day, or even every 30 minutes if the pain is intense. As soon as the pain improves, take more often.
  • For babies who salivate a lot and whose teeth are slow to come out, Calcarea carbonica 9 CH is used at a rate of five granules once a day for three weeks. As a basic treatment, a dose of 15 CH every fortnight is also recommended.
  • When a baby has mild diarrhoea, colic or is constantly seeking comfort, Pulsatilla 9 CH is a good option, administered morning and evening until improvement.
  • Sulfur 7 CH, taken morning and evening, is effective in cases of skin redness, particularly on the bottom.
  • For frequent acid diarrhoea, Podophyllum 9 CH should be taken after each bowel movement.

Combining homeopathic remedies: when and how?

It is possible to combine several remedies, whatever the dosage of the homeopathic strain chosen, as long as they do not address the same symptoms. For example:

  • For a baby suffering from both teething pain and diaper rash, Chamomilla and Sulfur can be used alternately.
  • If teething is slow and painful, you can combine Calcarea carbonica (in the morning) with Chamomilla (in the event of an attack).
  • In the case of diarrhoea associated with a strong demand for contact, the combination of Pulsatilla and Podophyllum may be appropriate.

The important thing is not to give all the remedies at the same time, but to alternate them every 4 to 6 hours, as required.

Granules or suppositories: which method of administering homeopathy?

Granules are the most commonly used. They are left to melt directly in the baby’s mouth or dissolved in a little warm water. For reasons of hygiene, pour the granules without touching them.

In the event of digestive problems or if the baby refuses to take anything orally, homeopathic suppositories may be an alternative. However, the instructions on the leaflet must be strictly followed.

You can give the remedies outside mealtimes, at least 15 to 30 minutes before or after feeding or bottle-feeding.

Duration of treatment and dosage errors to be avoided in homeopathy

In the acute phase, the remedies can be taken closer together, then spaced out as soon as the symptoms diminish. For long-term treatment, the dose is generally taken daily or weekly, over a period of several weeks, according to the advice of the health professional.

Certain mistakes are common. For example, mixing several remedies indiscriminately, taking more doses unnecessarily or stopping a treatment too soon. Homeopathic dosage cannot be improvised. It is always preferable to observe the evolution of symptoms, and if in doubt, to seek the advice of your pharmacist or a qualified homeopath.
