Many parents turn to homeopathy to gently support their child’s health, including when it comes to vaccinations. However, it is essential to remember one key point:homeopathy does not replace baby’s vaccinations. It should never be used as a “natural vaccination” method
Baby vaccinations and prevention
In France, the infant vaccination schedule protects against a number of potentially serious diseases, such as whooping cough, certain forms of meningitis, poliomyelitis and hepatitis B. The health authorities point out that vaccination remains one of the most effective ways of reducing mortality and the after-effects of infections in children
However, some parents who are sensitive to natural approaches fear the side-effects of vaccines. As a result, they are looking for complementary solutions to help them get through this phase more easily. In this context, homeopathy can be seen as a comfort tool, provided it remains strictly in a supportive role.
Nosodes and “homeopathic vaccines
On the Internet and in certain circles, we sometimes find references to “nosodes” or “homeopathic vaccines” presented as alternatives to conventional vaccines. However, the scientific data available shows that there is no proof that these preparations are effective in preventing infectious diseases
In addition, a number of health bodies have requested that the labelling of these products clearly state that they are not substitutes for vaccines. As well as the fact that they do not protect against infection. For your baby’s safety, it is therefore vital never to forego a vaccine in favour of homeopathic remedies, whatever they may be
Homeopathic remedies for vaccines
When used properly, homeopathy can be used to relieve certain minor discomforts associated with vaccination. It does not interfere with the effectiveness of the vaccine when taken according to the usual recommendations. The protocols below are given as examples and should always be validated by your doctor or pharmacist, especially for infants
- Arnica montana 9 CH: classic remedy for minor trauma, often suggested for local sensitivity at the injection site. Usual dose: 3 to 5 granules, 2 to 3 times a day for 24 to 48 hours after the injection, to be dissolved in a little water for very young children, or in a suitable liquid form.
- Chamomilla vulgaris 9 CH: often recommended for very irritable, grumpy infants who cry easily after vaccination, especially in the event of painful teething. Usual dose: 3 to 5 granules up to 3 times a day in the acute phase, tapering off as soon as the symptoms improve.
- Belladonna 9 CH: traditionally used in cases of rapid onset of moderate fever, with red cheeks and marked heat, but no signs of seriousness. Usual dose: 3 to 5 granules every 4 to 6 hours at most, decreasing the frequency as soon as the fever subsides and the child remains tonic and reactive.
Some homeopaths add a “field” remedy, such as Thuya occidentalis or Silicea, for children who fear a slightly marked local reaction. However, these prescriptions are much more individualised and should be reserved for specific homeopathic follow-up.
Warning signs to be aware of
Most vaccine reactions are often mild and transient: moderate fever, local pain, temporary irritability or tiredness. However, certain signs should prompt medical attention: high or persistent fever, inconsolable crying. But also difficulty breathing, a grey or blue complexion, or any symptom that really worries you
In these situations, homeopathy should never delay medical treatment. It cannot replace the recommendations of health professionals. It does not replace emergency treatments when they are necessary. In this case, natural support is essential both upstream and downstream. But always within the framework of rigorous paediatric monitoring
Reconciling vaccinations and natural health
For parents who want to reconcile vaccination and natural health, the safest approach is to :
- following the recommended vaccination schedule for their baby ;
- discussing with their paediatrician or pharmacist the possibility of individualised homeopathic support before and after the vaccination;
- combine simple comfort measures (babywearing, breastfeeding or bottle-feeding in a calm environment, hydration, cuddles, reassuring surroundings) with homeopathic treatments.
This approach allows us to remain faithful to a global and natural vision of health. While guaranteeing your child optimum protection against vaccine-preventable infectious diseases
