Homeopathy in superficial phlebitis of the lower limbs

Phlebitis were affections that were formerly incorrectly called “periphlebitis”. It is in fact an inflammation with thrombosis of varicose veins , resulting in pain , redness , as well as induration of recent appearance. They are only exceptionally emboligenic. The pain remains low, there is little or no general impact. Rarely the evolution is done towards a thrombosis of the saphenous vein; however, recurrences are frequent. In the elderly, we will look for arteriopathyunderlying. In the event of a very intense perivenous reaction, a thrombogenic cause will be sought: blood disease, diaphragmatic hernia, digestive or genital cancer, taking contraceptives, etc.

Early and state-phase drugs for superficial phlebitis of the lower limbs

Belladonna :

Sudden onset of symptoms, with locally:

  • Redness and swelling
  • Pain, often pulsating
  • Intense, radiant heat with burning sensation

Dosage : Take Belladonna 7 CH, 5 granules every 2 hours, space out the intakes with improvement.

APIs :

This drug is indicated in the face of a pinkish red edematous inflammation with burning, stinging pains, improved in particular by cold applications and aggravated by heat.

There may be pruritus of the same modalities.

Dosage : Take Apis 9 or 15 CH, 5 granules every two hours. Space following improvement.

Vipera said again :

Vipera ‘s experiment causes a reaction of inflammatory edema and lymphangitis in the veins , analogous to the reaction mode of superficial phlebitis. Practically, Vipera is therefore indicated in all superficial phlebitis when there is inflammation and venous dilation with pain and a feeling of bursting , aggravated by letting the leg hang vertically and improved by raising it.

Dosage : Take Vipera 5 or 7 CH, 5 granules 2 to 4 times a day depending on the intensity of the symptoms.

Lachesis :

Again, this is snake venom. Pathogenetic experimentation has shown an action in the blood with a first phase of hypercoagulability, then a second phase of hypocoagulability with bruising.

Lachesis is indicated when there is a local purplish aspect , sometimes ecchymotic, with a very painful, hyperesthetic vein , with aggravation by heat as well as by touch .

If superficial phlebitis occurs in a patient whose sensitive type corresponds to that of Lachesis , the general symptoms of the drug may be exacerbated by the local affection. For example: Generalized hyperesthesia, increased aggressiveness, etc.

Dosage : Take in 9 CH, 5 granules morning and evening for a local similarity; in 15 C if there is an exacerbation of general or behavioral symptoms.

Arnica :

The condition often begins after direct trauma or after exertion. Inflammation can indeed be accompanied by bruising . The pain is bruised , stiff, or muscle aching. It is aggravated by the slightest touch. In fact, because of its elective pathogenetic tropism for capillaries. Arnica , like Vipera , can be taken systematically in superficial phlebitis.

Dosage : Take it in 7 or 9 CH, 5 granules twice a day.

The reaction mode of a patient is rarely unequivocal. Also, when the symptomatology is polymorphic, it is desirable in the same day to take 2 or 3 drugs in turn. The different drugs will then act in complementarity.

Medications for the resolution phase of superficial phlebitis of the lower limbs

It will be necessary to take drugs with venous tropism for some time, in order to avoid a recurrence.

Arnica:

In case of persistent pain, such as bruising, stiffness, aggravated by effort.

Dosage : Take Arnica 9 CH, 5 granules once a day.

Viperi redi:

In case of sensation of heavy legs , very clearly relieved by raising the lower limbs , and aggravated by letting them hang down.

Dosage : Take Vipera 7 CH, 5 granules once a day.

Hamamelis virginiana :

In case of dilated, sensitive and painful veins, with a feeling of bruised soreness, bursting of the veins . These symptoms are aggravated by heat.

Dosage : Take Hamamelis 6 DH, 15 to 20 drops twice a day.

Pulsatilla :

In case of varicose veins with small shooting pains, concomitant with erythrocyanosis of the extremities . Worse from heat and rest. Improved by walking in the fresh air.

Dosage : Take Pulsatilla 7 CH, 5 granules per day.

Calcarea fluorica :

This drug will thus be indicated when indurated varicose hypodermia persists .

Dosage : Take Calcarea fluorica for a long time in 7 or 9 CH, 5 granules once a day.

Fluoricum acidum :

This medication is particularly indicated for itchy varicose veins , and/or burning sensations in the legs . Worse by heat as well as amelioration by cool.

Dosage : Take Fluoricum acidum for a long time in 7 or 9 CH, 5 granules once a day.
